General English Learning Objective (Elementary Level) at Vyagale’s Academy
Students at Vyagale’s Academy will develop basic English communication skills by listening, speaking, reading, and writing in meaningful, real-world contexts, building confidence and comprehension for everyday interactions.
Academy-Wide ESL Goal
Across all subjects, students will:
- Learn academic English naturally through content instruction.
- Develop bilingual fluency in both English and Spanish.
- Strengthen reading, writing, listening, and speaking in every discipline.
- Build global competence and cultural pride simultaneously.
Grade-Level Objectives
1st–2nd Grade
- Identify and use common classroom vocabulary (colors, numbers, days, objects).
- Follow simple oral instructions in English.
- Say and respond to basic greetings and introductions.
- Recognize and write simple English words and short phrases.
3rd–4th Grade
- Use simple sentences to describe themselves, their family, and their environment.
- Ask and answer basic questions using “who,” “what,” “where,” and “how.”
- Read short English passages and identify key information.
- Write short sentences using familiar vocabulary and correct word order.
5th–6th Grade
- Communicate in short conversations about daily routines, hobbies, and school subjects.
- Demonstrate understanding of basic grammar (present tense verbs, subject-verb agreement).
- Read and summarize short English stories or informational texts.
- Write short paragraphs using descriptive language and correct punctuation.

Learning Objective:
Students will build foundational English literacy and communication skills, using vocabulary and grammar structures to understand and produce simple spoken and written language for everyday academic and social interactions.
Student Outcomes:
- Use greetings and simple conversational phrases.
- Read and understand short English texts with visual support.
- Write simple sentences using familiar vocabulary.
- Ask and answer basic questions (Who? What? Where?).
- Demonstrate understanding of present tense verbs and sentence structure.
Elementary level English as a Second Language courses are offered in the following areas: Spanish Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, History, and Geography, alongside Art (Educación Artística) and Physical Education (Educación Física), with a strong focus on foundational skills, critical thinking, and Mexican culture/civic values, as indicated by the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) (Ministry of Education).

ESL Focus: Bilingual Literacy Development & Cross-Language Transfer
This course strengthens students’ native Spanish literacy while supporting English acquisition through structured comparisons between both languages. Students build reading fluency, grammar awareness, and written expression in Spanish, then transfer those skills into English writing and comprehension.
Students will:
- Develop phonemic awareness and vocabulary in Spanish and English.
- Compare grammar, syntax, and sentence structures between languages.
- Strengthen reading comprehension through bilingual texts.
- Write narratives, opinions, and summaries using academic language.
- Build confidence in expressing ideas across both languages.
Matemáticas (Mathematics)
ESL Focus: Language of Math & Academic Vocabulary
Mathematics is taught in English with visual and language scaffolds so students master both mathematical reasoning and English terminology. Students learn how to explain mathematical processes and interpret word problems in English while applying real-world problem solving.
Students will:
- Learn mathematical vocabulary (add, subtract, measure, estimate).
- Solve problems using logical reasoning and critical thinking.
- Interpret data, charts, and graphs using academic English.
- Apply measurement, operations, and patterns to real-life contexts.
- Build fluency in explaining their thinking verbally and in writing.
Ciencias Naturales (Natural Sciences)
ESL Focus: Scientific Language & Inquiry-Based English
Students explore science concepts through hands-on learning and English language immersion. Vocabulary is introduced contextually so students can describe, analyze, and explain scientific phenomena in English while connecting learning to their environment and culture.
Students will:
- Identify key scientific terms (light, sound, force, living things).
- Conduct simple experiments and describe results in English.
- Understand biodiversity, ecosystems, and environmental science.
- Build academic speaking and writing skills through science journals.
- Develop curiosity and analytical thinking in a second language.
Historia (History)
ESL Focus: Academic Language for Cultural and Historical Analysis
History is taught in English while emphasizing Mexican heritage and global awareness. Students learn to describe historical events, understand timelines, and explain cause-and-effect relationships using academic English structures.
Students will:
- Learn vocabulary related to Mexican and world history.
- Discuss historical figures and events using complete sentences.
- Analyze the importance of culture, identity, and leadership.
- Develop reading comprehension through historical texts.
- Strengthen writing through reports, reflections, and projects.
Geografía (Geography)
ESL Focus: Descriptive Language & Global Awareness
This course helps students build English vocabulary and comprehension while learning about physical geography, maps, regions, and global cultures. Students use English to describe their environment, analyze locations, and understand the world around them.
Students will:
- Learn key terms for landforms, climates, and global regions.
- Interpret maps and charts using English academic language.
- Compare Mexico’s geography with other countries and cultures.
- Write and present information about places and environments.
- Strengthen critical thinking and cross-cultural understanding.

Educación Física (Physical Education)
ESL Focus: Language for Health, Movement, and Teamwork
Physical education promotes both wellness and English comprehension through movement-based instruction. Students follow directions, describe actions, and build social-emotional and communication skills while staying active.
Students will:
- Learn action and body vocabulary (jump, run, stretch, balance).
- Follow English instructions during physical activities.
- Practice teamwork and communication using simple English phrases.

Civic Values (Cultura de la Legalidad / Social Responsibility)
ESL Focus: Language for Ethics, Laws, and Community Leadership
This course develops character, leadership, and social awareness while strengthening students’ ability to communicate ideas in English. Students explore fairness, respect, responsibility, and legal principles in a culturally meaningful way.
Students will:
